Analogy
traditional understanding of baptism
Baptism is, among other things, a public declaration. It is the believer’s way of saying, before witnesses, “I belong to Jesus now.” Private faith is real, but baptism refuses to let it remain entirely private. The water and the gathered church together mark a line: something decisive has happened, and the community is invited to recognize it.
