The Practice of the Presence of God – Brother Lawrence
Brother Lawrence, a 17th-century Carmelite lay brother, learned to “practice the presence of God” while washing dishes and working in the monastery kitchen. He discovered that he could turn ordinary tasks into continual conversation with God. The goal was not to have special spiritual experiences, but to do the next thing for the love of God and in awareness of His presence. He wrote that he was “more united to God in his outward employments than when he left them for devotion in retirement.”
How you’d preach it
Beautiful picture of abiding in the ordinary. Excellent for sermons on everyday faithfulness, prayer, or the sacredness of common life.
