God Weeps So We May Laugh

Jürgen Moltmann (via Philip Yancey)

Theologian Jürgen Moltmann summarized the span from Good Friday to Easter in one sentence: “God weeps with us so that we may someday laugh with him.” The line holds the two poles without collapsing either. The weeping is real. The promised laughter is also real. Easter does not deny the tears; it promises they will not have the final word.

How you’d preach it

Compact summary of the movement from Friday to Sunday. Useful for holding both sorrow and hope together.
