Drawing from the story in 2 Kings 3, where God tells the armies to dig ditches in the valley before He sends water, Groeschel emphasizes a repeated pattern in Scripture: God often asks us to dig the ditch before He sends the water. He could fill the valley without any human effort. Instead He invites participation — stretch out the hand, pick up the mat, wash in the pool, dig the ditch. The miracle is still entirely His; the act of obedience is how we join our faith to His power.
