May 4 – The Adventure of Serving
Gandalf confronts Bilbo’s quiet, comfortable life with a pointed question: “You’ve been sitting quietly for far too long… When did doilies and your mother’s dishes become so important to you?” Many of us can slowly settle into a similar posture — valuing predictability, safety, and personal comfort more than the risky, costly adventure of following Jesus in service to others. The Christian life is not primarily about protecting our small, well-ordered Shire. It is about joining the larger story God is writing.
