Historical anecdote (King Louis XII)
When King Louis XII of France came to the throne, he was urged to punish the enemies who had opposed him before he became king. Instead, he took a piece of paper, listed all the names of those who had wronged him, and hung the list in a public place. Beside every name he drew a large cross. When asked what it meant, he said: “The cross means they are forgiven. Do you think I keep a record of injuries after I have pardoned them?”
How you’d preach it
Beautiful picture of how God deals with the forgiven — He marks the record with the cross and refuses to keep bringing the old charges.
