Religion Gives a Shovel; Grace Opens the Door

Religion hands the sinner a shovel and says, “Dig your way out of the grave.” Grace announces that Christ has already raised the dead. Religion tells the condemned man to clean up his cell. Grace unlocks the prison door and walks him out. The difference is not effort versus laziness. The difference is whether the decisive work has already been done by someone else.
