He Changed His Clothes

Today in the Word, February 1991 (Cecil Rhodes)

Cecil Rhodes was known as a stickler for correct dress. A young man invited to dinner at his home arrived straight from the train in travel-stained clothes and found the other guests already in evening dress. After a delay, Rhodes appeared in a shabby old blue suit. The young man later learned that Rhodes had been properly dressed but changed when he heard of his guest’s dilemma. The kindness was quiet: he absorbed the awkwardness so the other man would not have to.

How you’d preach it
