Truth Available Is Not Truth Appropriated

W.E.B. Du Bois conducted careful, scientific research on the condition of Black Americans, convinced that clear truth would produce reform. His work was rigorous. Years later, with little resulting change, he had to accept a harder truth about truth itself: its being available does not mean it will be appropriated. Information is not the same as transformation. The same gap appears in spiritual knowledge that never becomes obedience.

Knowledge alone does not produce change. The gap between knowing and acting remains.
