The Lawyer Who Could Not Say “Samaritan”
July 19 – The Good Samaritan (Luke 10)
At the end of the parable Jesus asks, “Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replies, “The one who had mercy on him.” He understood the point intellectually, but he still could not bring himself to say the word “Samaritan.” Even after the story, his prejudice and pride kept him from fully acknowledging that the despised outsider was the true example of love. Head knowledge is not the same as heart surrender.
