Story
Today in the Word, July 30, 1993
Neil Marten was giving constituents a tour of the Houses of Parliament when they met Lord Hailsham in full regalia. Hailsham recognized Marten and called out, “Neil!” Not daring to question the “command,” the entire group promptly fell to their knees. The story is funny because the response was so complete. It also raises a quieter question: how quickly do we respond when the voice that calls our name is actually the Lord’s?
How you’d preach it
Light and memorable. Sometimes what sounds like a command produces more response than intended.
