Psalm 115
Metaphor
Psalm 115 – The Source of Hope
Imagine an Olympic athlete who wins gold. After the competition, the media and the crowds begin praising the athlete’s shoes, the starting blocks, the stopwatch, or the track itself. They give glory to the tools instead of the one who used them. That is what idolatry does. It takes the good gifts God has given and treats them as if they are the source of life, strength, and glory — instead of pointing back to the Giver. Psalm 115 confronts this: “Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory.”
How you’d preach it
Clear picture of how we can subtly shift glory from God to the things He has given us (money, talent, family, ministry success, etc.).
