Religion and the Gospel

Religion, in the critical sense, is the attempt to secure standing with God by performance. The gospel announces standing already secured by Christ, from which obedience then flows. The order changes everything. One produces anxiety and pride. The other produces gratitude and freedom.
How you’d preach it
Religion says “I obey, therefore I am accepted.” The gospel says “I am accepted, therefore I obey.”
