The Unstrung Bow
Greek legend of Aesop
Aesop was criticized for playing childish games with boys. He picked up a bow, loosened its string, and asked what the unstrung bow implied. When the critic could not answer, Aesop said, “If you keep a bow always bent, it will break eventually; but if you let it go slack, it will be more fit for use when you want it.” People are the same. Continuous strain without release does not produce more faithfulness. It produces breakage.
