I Could Only Keep My Eyes on You
Traditional anecdote (Cyrus and the captured prince)
Cyrus captured a prince and his family. He asked what the prince would give for his own release—“half my wealth.” For his children—“everything I possess.” For his wife—“myself.” Moved, Cyrus freed them all. On the way home the prince remarked that Cyrus was handsome. His wife replied, “I didn’t notice. I could only keep my eyes on you—the one who was willing to give himself for me.” The story still points beyond itself. Those who have been redeemed at cost learn to keep their eyes on the One who gave Himself.
How you’d preach it
Love that notices the one who was willing to give himself. Useful for the cross and for costly devotion.
