Just Ask for It
Our Daily Bread, October 11, 1992 (Clara Barton / Theodore Roosevelt)
During the Spanish-American War, Theodore Roosevelt tried to buy food from the Red Cross for his sick and wounded men. Clara Barton refused to sell. When Roosevelt asked why, he was told, “Colonel, just ask for it.” The provisions were not for sale. They were to be given. A smile broke over his face when he understood. The gospel works the same way. What we need most is not available for purchase. It is available for the asking.
