Quote
Amy Carmichael, 1867–1951
Amy Carmichael, who spent decades in India rescuing children and never went home, wrote, “You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.” The line is easy to stitch on a pillow. Her life was not. Love, in her work, had a ledger of sleeplessness and a refusal to treat other people’s children as someone else’s problem. The quote only works if you keep the woman in the sentence.
How you’d preach it
Pair with a text on love or neighbor. Do not let it become a proverb. Ask what giving would look like if it had to last decades.
