The man who became a neighbor
Luke 10:25–37
The lawyer wants a boundary: who counts? Jesus gives him a ditch, a priest, a Levite, and a Samaritan with oil and a blank check at the inn. The hero is the last person the room would cast. Neighbor, in the parable, is not a category you define in advance. It is a mercy you become when you stop. The question flips from “who is my neighbor?” to “which of these was one?”
How you’d preach it
Do not let this become a vague kindness talk. Name the Samaritan in your town — the group this congregation is trained not to stop for.
