Object lesson
Matthew 5:14–16; Mark 4:21
No one lights a lamp and hides it. The point of the flame is the room. Jesus is talking about lives that have been lit and then carefully covered — for politeness, for safety, for a quieter week. A basket is a reasonable object. It is also how a gift goes dark. The lamp is not for the lamp’s self-esteem. It is for whoever is still finding the furniture in the dark.
How you’d preach it
Hold a basket over a light if you can. Ask what this church uses for a cover: niceness, busyness, fear of being thought intense.
