Count the tower before the first stone
Luke 14:25–33
Still in Luke 14, the crowds are large and Jesus turns unsentimental. Who builds a tower without sitting down to count? Who goes to war with ten thousand against twenty? Discipleship is not a mood that follows a moving sermon. It is a cost named in daylight. The unfinished tower is a public joke. So is a half-followed Christ. He is not trying to thin the crowd for cruelty. He is refusing to sell them a faith that will not survive Thursday.
How you’d preach it
Use when the room wants a gentle Jesus and a cheap yes. Pair with the banquet: grace invites the unlikely, and then tells them what the road costs.
