The one thing he could not sell

Mark 10:17–27; Luke 18:18–27

The rich ruler has kept the commandments from his youth. Jesus looks at him and loves him, then puts a finger on the one room that is not for sale. The man goes away sad. The camel and the needle are not a puzzle for clever preachers. They are a verdict on a goodness that still has a landlord. Mark says Jesus loved him. Love, here, is the sentence that tells the truth.

How you’d preach it

Ask what would make this room walk away sad. Not generic greed — the particular treasure that still owns them.
