The surprise on both sides
Matthew 25:31–46
The Son of Man separates them as a shepherd separates sheep and goats. Both groups are surprised. The blessed did not know their cups of water were him. The cursed did not know their neglect was him. The test is not a doctrinal exam they sat. It is whether the hidden Christ in the hungry and the sick found a door. Matthew 25 will not let a church love Jesus in the abstract.
How you’d preach it
Keep the surprise. This is not a social-gospel cudgel or an excuse to ignore the poor. It is Jesus identifying himself where we prefer him not to be.
