Solzhenitsyn, after the camps, refused the useful lie that evil is only in other people. “The line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being.” The sentence will not let a congregation exile wickedness to a party, a nation, or a past. It also will not let them despair. If the line runs through us, repentance is still an address we can find.
