Analogy
From the street the church is dark
Traditional church-window analogy
Walk past a stone church at midday and the stained glass is dull, almost black. The saints look like shadows. Step inside and the same windows are on fire — cobalt, gold, a wound of red. The glass did not change. The light did. From outside, faith often looks like a dead window: rules, old stories, a building that keeps its colors to itself. From inside, the same stories are how the light gets in. The analogy has a warning, too. If the church never opens the door, the street will only ever see the darkness.
How you’d preach it
Use for witness, or for people who have only known Christianity from the sidewalk. Invite them in without sneering at their view. Then ask whether the congregation has become a beautiful window that no longer lets anyone through.
