The wounds were the evidence
John 20:24–29
Thomas does not ask for a feeling. He asks for the holes. A week later Jesus does not scold him offstage. He offers the body: fingers here, hand here. The risen Christ is not a rumor that rewards the least skeptical. He is a wounded man who will be touched. Doubt, in John 20, is not treated as a moral failure so much as a demand for the particular — this Jesus, these scars, not a general spirituality. The object lesson is still the wound. Faith is invited to put its hand where the nails were.
How you’d preach it
If you can, keep the emphasis on Jesus’ invitation, not on shaming the skeptic in the room. Thomas wants the same Lord the others already saw. Some honest unbelief is a refusal of vagueness. Give them the particular Christ the text gives Thomas.
