History
William Tyndale, d. 1536
William Tyndale wanted ploughboys to have the Scriptures. He was hunted, betrayed, and strangled near Brussels, then burned. His dying prayer — that the King of England’s eyes would be opened — was not a legend attached later for color. Within a few years English Bibles were being set in churches. The Word we hold so casually arrived through a man who paid for a sentence we skim.
How you’d preach it
Use when the text is about the Word, or when a church is casual with a Bible it did not bleed for. Gratitude is the first interpretation.
